Dogs, dogs, dogs! We can’t get enough of them here. And as all dog people know, your most important responsibility is making sure your pup is in tip-top shape. After all, a healthy dog is the happiest dog! In the final installment of our family-friendly My Dog! video series, author and dog expert Michael J. Rosen takes you through a basic 60-second check-up to make sure your pooch is feeling fabulous.

Easy Last-Minute Halloween Costumes!

We know, you’re a procrastinator. You had all weekend to work on a costume, but you were just too busy (or lazy, but maybe that’s just me…). Well, thank your lucky stars, because this morning Megan Nicolay of Generation T has come to save the day!

With the help of former Workman intern and videographer Elan Bird, Megan put together 10 quick and easy Halloween costumes that are clever as can be. Check out the video below for a tutorial. (I’m personally quite fond of the Deviled Egg…) Be sure to visit Generation T’s website or on the Gen T facebook page to ooh and ahh over the clever sketches while you’re pondering which t-shirt will make you the hit of your Halloween party.

Okay. You’re going to think I’m obsessed with Maker Faire. And maybe I am. Or maybe the crafty holiday spirit is to blame. Around this time of year, I like to give gifts with a handmade touch — be they cookies, knitted goods (points for effort?), toys, or any number of household items crafted from repurposed fabric. So my apartment inevitably turns into a miniature Santa studio…. And what is Maker Faire, really, but a giant workshop bustling with high-octane elvish makers?

Do You Doodle?

These Google doodlers probably have one of the sweetest jobs around. And while I don’t see “Google Doodler” popping up on my resume anytime soon, I like to fancy myself a part-time doodler…and now you can, too!

The Doodle calendar for 2011 includes 12 different “backgrounds” to creatively embellish…. In January, there’s a vacant city for you to breathe life into: Will there be gridlock? An alien invasion? Fire-breathing monsters? Or has there been an odd change in weather and it’s raining cats and dogs? Just grab your trusty chalk and doodle away. In February, a bare round head requests a new hairstyle — curly or straight, a spiky punk Mohawk or a spectacular mullet — what shear genius will you come up with? Fast forward to October, and a pumpkin awaits infinite jack-o-lantern expressions — will he be particularly wicked this year?
