about Portraits

Although the family farm is fading from the American landscape, the farm and its inhabitants hold a special place in our hearts. We are a nation descended from farmers, still tied to that heritage by strong emotional bonds. In Portraits, art photographer Danielle Weil presents 50 exquisite black-and-white portraits of farm animals. Her carefully composed photographs enable us to look at these animals--cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks, goats, horses, and donkeys--with the patience they seldom allow us in real life and make it possible for us to discover their individuality, their uniqueness, all over again.

With a lyrical introduction by Verlyn Klinkenborg, Portraits is the perfect gift book for animal lovers and for all of us who feel a nostalgic connection to the farm.
